Tinubu began her education at Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School in Ijebu-Ode, where she graduated with a West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Exam (WASSCE) in 1979 and a PGD from The Redeemed Christian Bible College in 2010.
Tinubu earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Ife, as well as a National Certificate of Education in Botany and Zoology from the Adeyemi College of Education.
When her husband, Bola Tinubu, was elected governor of Lagos State, she became the state's first lady. As the first lady, she established the New Era Foundation, which is dedicated to establishing centers for "all-around development of young people and to raising public awareness about environmental health and community service."
Tinubu's election was called into question by the Legislative House Election Petition Tribunal, which later convened and upheld the election in 2012.
Tinubu was elected as one of over 100 senators in the eighth assembly in 2015. She retained her senatorial seat representing Lagos Central in the 2019 general elections, making this her third term in office.
Senator Tinubu proposed a bill in March 2021 to reform the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) and make it a more viable entity. She was also named the most influential female senator at The Guardian's International Women's Day Summit 2021.
She is married to former Lagos State Governor and Senator Bola Tinubu. She is a devout Christian. and is a Redeemed Christian Church of God ordained pastor
She is also the Grand Matron of the Lagos State Officials' Wives Committee
