Happy Birthday Mosunmola Abudu, aka. . Mo Abudu, born September 11, 1964, is a Nigerian media mogul, philanthropist, and former human resources consultant


Mo Abudu was born in Hammersmith, west London. Her father was an engineer and her mother was a caterer. Mo's family roots are in Ondo Town in southwest Nigeria. She is the eldest of three sisters in the family. Mosunmola Abudu moved to Nigeria to live with her grandparents at the age of 7 and returned to England at the age of 11.


She attended Ridgeway School, MidKent College, and West Kent College. She holds a Masters degree in Human Resource Management from the University of Westminster, London. Mo is currently a member of the British Psychological Society with a qualification in professional and personality testing.


In 2014 she received an honorary doctorate (Honouris Causa) from Babcock University. Mo Abudu was awarded an honorary Doctor of Arts degree by the University of Westminster in 2018 in recognition of her services to the broadcasting industry in Nigeria.


At the age of 19, Mo Abudu was chosen to be AVON Cosmetics' brand ambassador for the African market.


Mo Abudu started her career in 1987 as a recruitment consultant with Atlas Recruitment Consultancy in the UK, before moving to Starform Group in 1990. In 1993 she returned to Nigeria and was recruited by Arthur Andersen to lead human resources and training for oil giant ExxonMobil. She is the founder of Vic Lawrence & Associates Limited. She created, produced, and presented Moments with Mo, later founded a television network (Ebony Life Television), and continues to produce entertainment content to this day.


Mo Abudu founded Ebonylife TV (ELTV) in 2006, a network that broadcasts to pan-African audiences in more than 49 countries across Africa as well as in the UK and the Caribbean. EbonyLife TV broadcast its first show on July 1, 2013, on Multichoice's DSTV channel 165. After less than a year of operation, EbonyLife TV, which is among the 25% most watched channels on the DStv platform, launched a premium multiscreen video On Demand Platform (VOD) for Africans in Diaspora. It expanded its reach into sub-Saharan Africa.


Abudu founded EbonyLife Films in 2014. Her first film as an executive producer was Fifty (film). In 2016 she collaborated with The ELFIKE Collective and produced The Wedding Party. The film became the highest-grossing title of all time in the Nigerian film industry (Nollywood). Other films she has executive produced or co-produced include The Wedding Party 2, The Royal Hibiscus Hotel, Chief Daddy, Your Excellency (film), and Òlòtūré.
